10 Ways To Fail In Life Almost Guaranteed

So you want to be successful in life? Is that what you want? Then you better stop failing and become aware of these 10 ways to fail in life.
You see, I’ve been asked many times for how to achieve success and weird enough, seems like nobody’s taking that advice seriously. Then I realized one thing – most people are ALREADY failing before they even got started!
The article I wrote below is slightly controversy compare to the normal goodie-type personal development advice because this is the TRUTH. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children. I want to tell you the truth straight to your face because I’ve been there and heard the garbage lies thrown everywhere.
Avoid these and you’ll automatically be on the right track (provided you want to be successful)…
1. Mixing With Losers
It’s a guaranteed way to fail in life with this. Whatever you like to do, losers will just tell you it won’t work and after some time, you will also become a loser. High five, welcome to the losers’ club. Something about losers you should know: they like to ‘recruit’ new people and are very comfortable in their shoes. They don’t welcome Changes. So when you see someone with any of these two characteristics, you know what you should do.
2. Don’t Know What You Want
The most common goal I hear all of the time is, “I want to be rich”. I mean it’s fine with that generic goal but the problem is, how rich do you want to be? Or how rich is rich? Put it this way – the methods used to make a million and $3,000 are different. No wonder some people couldn’t experience breakthroughs in life because they are playing small for big goals. If you want to make a million, you better put in that level of commitment, bucko.
3. You Want Everything

It’s nice to have a lot of things but if you go chasing everything, you get nothing. Let me tell you why – you only have 24 hours a day and you’ve got to focus on your priorities. I know, I know, you can hire others and so on but the fact is, you’ve got to want ’something’ first to lead to another ’something’, then to everything. Make sense?
4. Watching the “Secrets” Way Too Much
I’m not here to criticize Law Of Attractions (LOA) and don’t want to receive hate emails. As a matter of fact, I do believe in it and have friends who appeared in the Secrets. But it’s a surefire way to fail if you keep on watching the “Secrets” and doing ‘attraction’ by sitting down on your floor manifesting 3 hours a day. In my point of view, scientifically, Law of Attraction runs on the concept of ‘believing’. When you believe you can achieve your goal, you will take actions to actually achieve it but if you don’t understand this basic element and think LOA is some sort of miracle remedy, oh boy, you’re in for a big surprise for failure.
5. You Don’t Truly Know Why You Want Success

Wanting everything is bad enough – but it gets even worse if you don’t even know the reason why you’re trying to achieve your goal. What’s the deal? Without a solid reason, a compelling reason, where are you going to find the motivation and encouragement for you to overcome obstacles? You think it’s going to be fun ride to success? Then you haven’t been traveling – it’s a rocky road, my friend. Most people failed to achieve their goals because they never complete the journey– they give up half way (or at the beginning) because they cannot see the worth of accomplishments.
6. You Don’t Remember Your Roots
The thing I get most irritated about is people who achieved success and never felt gratitude towards those who have helped them. Is it very hard to say, ‘thank you’? The law of reciprocity is simple – you return favors to those who helped you in the past. And maybe, they’ll help you again in the future. Remember this- it takes more than just you to achieve success, so don’t be a jerk.
7. You Think You’re Smart

The day you stop learning is the day you stop improving yourself. If you don’t want to fail in life, make you sure you stop acting as though you already know everything. The fact is, all successful people are people who continuously learn to be even more successful. They don’t stop. Let me put it in this perspective – you don’t know what you don’t know, you know?
8. You Listen To The Wrong People

I watched this funny movie called, “He Is Just Not That Into You” and it just reaffirmed what I’m about to tell you. At the beginning of the movie, it shows a clip of a boy pushing a girl in the playground because he somehow doesn’t like her. He thinks she smells like dog pooh. She cried and asked her mum why did the boy do that to her. And her mum replied, “It’s because boys do that to girls when they like you.” Do yourself a favor, don’t get wrong advice. It’ll stick in your brain and lead you to make stupid interpretations in life.
9. You Think Short Term
You’ll hear this happening often in many ’successful’ people’s stories – make a lot of money to lose it all. This probably because they became too comfortable and the other thing is, once you achieve success, you should ride on the wave when the momentum is there. When you think short term, you’re only going after the instant pleasure. You must learn to master ‘delay gratification’ so that you can enjoy your today’s labor.
10. You’re Blinded With What Is Important In Life

I believe there are only two things that are important in your life – control of time and experiencing happiness. Money, love, big cars, diamonds, etc are the things that contribute to these 2 benchmarks of successes. For instance, if you have money, you don’t need to work so that you can have more time to do the things you like. It’s not the money that you’re trying to get but what the money CAN DO FOR YOU. I know this topic is bigger than one sentence explanation but I guess you get the point. You’re a smart fella.
So now you know the 10 ways to fail in life. Question is, are you doing any of these? I’ll be BS’ng you if I said I don’t. I’m human dude, flesh and blood – I do mistakes too.
But I was fortunate to experience my fair share of success today because I learn powerful lessons from other successful people…
“It’s okay to fail and you should fail as many times as you can. That is how you learn but more importantly, you should never give up – each time you get kick dirt in your face, wash your face and ‘fight’ back. Don’t go crying like a sissy because Mum’s not going to come cleaning your face.”
Are you ready? Go get your goals.

Yo, that’s very insightful!
Thanks for sharing, and most of all, thanks for showing me the way to fire my boss in 2005.
OK, OK, I’m applying the principle in #6 instantly! :p
Have a great day!

6 Functions in 1 bottle!
Thanks for the points. We should not simply give up although we may failed few times already.
Cheers!
Another point I think is we fight alone in a battle, then we can simply fall down and give up. We need a good partner to share our lose and win. Hopefully I can share my success story to you also in future
Patric,
I fully agree with you.
If you have a vision and take action to make it happen, then the law of attraction will help. Otherwise we will be just day dreaming …

David
Great Work as always!
The Law of attraction gives us the power to move on in any situation.
It is the fuel, and it will help us to overcome any worse situation with calm attittude.
But acting is crucial. It is the most important thing in life.
Thanks Patric for making everything in a nutshell.
yup, there are so much we need in order to achive success in ourself, thanks for remind me again!
This is one of the reasons I’ve always respected you, Patric. You are down to earth, you know where the bear sits in the woods, and you’re not afraid to explain the uncomfortable truths to people who might not want to hear it, but who really need to. And you have a knack for distilling it into a 10-point list, etc. I am bookmarking this page so I can read it again…and again.
Thank you for great post Patric. Your words are keeping it real
Hi Sir,
You really make sense…you said it in a lay mans term..that is effectively absorbed by heart & mind ..
Regards..
Wilcie
Hi Patric,
I am totally agree with you. These are the fundamental things that you highlighted. For me the most important thing here is when you fall down you just stand up and walk again. I believe there is no body in the world who didn’t fail any. If individual build themselves around the principles that you highlighted above, the mud could be washed and gold still shines. Handicaps that we have is just like a mud on top of the gold. Don’t worry about them and just wash them out. Thanks for the article Patric. All the best.
That was great Patric just what I needed to hear on this procrastinating today I was having, Now all fired up and ready to act on the inspiriations I was having. Thanks again.

Action is the most important step. We may learn all the secrets to becoming successful and happy but if we aren’t making plans and taking necessary steps to achieve our goals then we end up in square 1 again and again, watching The Secrets a thousand more times. T. Harv Eker — one of the greatest life coach in my opinion. Thanks, Patric for sharing.
I’m totally agree with what you said. It’s a good reminder to avoid from failure and to persist on what you believe to success .
I was feeling low this morning because things are not going the way I want and your mail gave me the boost I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself. You are so right in what you say. Thank You!
Hi Patric, thanks for sharing the real truth with us.Only if you know the real truth, only then you know how to act. Life is not about the icing on the cake because without the cake the icing is also nothing. Keep on writting about the TRUTH. I love it !!
Hi Patric
Thanks for the post – it puts it in a nutshell! However, I am a positive thinking person, and I get uncomfortable with a list like this, simply because its all about negatives. I would rather see a more positive way of looking at the same things that you’re talking about, so I compiled the same list (almost) to read like this (apologies if you’re feeling ripped off, its really not meant that way):
10 Ways To Succeed In Life (Guaranteed)
1. Mix With Winners
Always look for, and try to mix with, the winners in life. Choose those who are obviously successful, talk to them, listen to them, and you’ll find that you will begin to learn from them, and try to emulate them. If you do, Voila! … Success!
2. Know What You Want
Set your goals, and stick to them. Make these goals specific and BIG! Break them up into several smaller goals that will lead you step by step along the path to your BIG goal.
3. Want Something, Then Something Else, Then Something Else, …
If you try to chase after everything at once, it won’t happen. Take each thing one step at a time, go for each separate goal, and when that has been achieved, go for the next one.
4. Take Action, based on What You Have Learned From The “Secrets”
Its no good spending all the time watching and reading self-help material, you have to get up and go and get what you want; only then will the Laws Of Attraction work for you.
5. Know Truly Why You Want Success
The road to success can be a rough one, so you had better have a good reason for wanting to achieve your goals – without that reason, you will find that when the going gets tough, you will not have a reason to keep going, and will probably just give up.
6. Remember Your Roots
Make sure that you remember where you came from, and all the people who helped you along the way. Return favors, and try to help others as you were helped in the past.
7. Realize That You’re A Learner of Success
Successful people never stop learning. The is no way that you will ever know everything, so remember that you can, and will, always learn more.
8. Listen To The Right People
Make sure that you avoid those people who think they have all the answers (but actually have none), and do not listen to them. If you want to listen to others, choose the successful ones, for at least they will admit that, if they don’t know, they don’t know.
9. Think Long Term
Make sure that you have the long term view of your goals; remember, “Rome was not built in a day” – it takes time to achieve the really important goals, and to make a real lasting success of your life.
10. Know What Is Important In Life
There are only two really important things in life – control of time and experiencing happiness. The trapping of success – money, love, fancy cars, big houses, diamonds, etc. – are merely things that contribute to tees two important things. Understand, you are not trying to get money for its own sake, but for what money can do for you: it give you the freedom to control your time and to experience things that make you happy.
Hope you like it

Miss you mate!
Great artilce, really enjoyed it.
I see this all the time all over the planet people sit and WAIT for the universe to deliver. It’s outrageous. More needed, so much more.
Thanks Pat, great articel.

Thank you, Patric!
I love the truth cos it’s constant and has the power to set free whosoever that receives it -Newman
Hi Patric
Really hard hitting post!
I guess the 11th Way to Fail is not to plan to succeed.
In other words the old saying, “If you fail to plan you plan to fail”
Keeping hitting them out the park Patric!
Alex & Kathy
Hi Patric,
I really enjoy experiencing all ot the knowledge that you share.
However, I have to agree with John Mac. I too embrace positive thinking. Positive thinking isn’t about untruths but about finding the positive in all situations. I may be in debt today but this will help me work harder for and appreciate abundance. I may have lost my child in court but I will do what is necessary to have my child return. You are correct, our failures just make us stronger.
Johnnette.
i get it now, thanks chan.
Thanks Patric for having the courage to bust some chops and identify areas where people can get messed up in their thinking. I believe John Mac also has it right — once you know where you’re off track, then it’s time to replace those thoughts with something that WILL work instead.
I would so much rather be inspired than scolded! Also, I am always keen to learn something new, and ways to improve what I am doing. So yes, a dash of cold water in the face can wake me up — and then I want a warm washcloth to get me ready to face the day with a clear mind and happy heart
Patric,
I appreciate you for all your help, but most
of all I appreciate very much the fact that
you do not B.S. us but tell the truth. That
is like a breath of fresh air in this perverse
society we live in.
Keep up the good work, we really need you.
Don
Great article, Patric.
Even if we fail, we should take it positively as I believe failure is the mother of success.
Patric,
Read your post & comments- in view of all the Kissy kissy/huggy huggy the universe will provide mentality out there, this is a kick ass thought provoking article. I like it.
I understand what John McCarter is saying though and while I think your article is excellent there is a danger of using language that impacts our neurons negatively. Patric, you would agree that our language influences our thoughts/subconscious and therein lies the danger of a faulty blueprint.
Now and then it is necessary to turn the coin to shake people out of their complacency, to make them realize that you have to get off your duff if you want things to happen, and positive language may not create that “earthquake” that some of us need to just get going and take action.
Thank you.
valentina
Hi Patrick,
that’s quite insghtful i must confess. but i think i prefer the way John McCarter puts it above. I believe we should make things sound more positive than negative. Nevertheless, welldone for a job welldone, God Bless You.
I fully agree
Hi All,
Thanks for all of your comments!
I’m glad to see Comment like John’s. This is why, I mentioned it’s a controversy written article.
With many ‘positive’ teachings out there, this lesson might not be read at all but because
it’s been presented differently, it hits on many people’s awareness of what is actually happening.
Base on each of the Comment (I read them all personally), I’m glad no one sees it as a
negative energy but an empowering one.
John did a great work of positioning it differently. Thanks John.
To your success,
Patric Chan

You have said it all, I will like to avoid to 10 items, I have actually been practicing someof them
before. This the basic understanding that I need.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks Patric:
i am really enjoying these posts. I appreciate your words and direction.
Keep ‘em comin

bang on!
I disagree with #10. The most important things in life are our relationships. Money enhances those relationships, time certainly allows us to enjoy the relationship, but the relationships are most important. Get your relationships right and you will find happiness.
Excellent! You are really hitting on the BALANCE we need to succeed…goals, yes but as you say, goals without action is called dreaming.
Thank you for your words of common sense!
Jenna
Excellent boost to keep my persistence on track. Naturaly in balance with your personal release about your Grandma. Is she still O.K?
Arno
thank you so much for this.
i completely agree, and i understand, but applying all this new knowledge is were im having a problem.
Hi Patric,
nice controversial thinking.
here are some questions to ask:
1. if you want be successfull in something like (example) skiing, who should be your trainer? if you compete with beginners only, you may have some success, but you hold yourself down.
4. what should happen while i`m watching the video?
7. If i`m smart, why i still have to work??
11. why i have to take everything serios?
when i started sports competitions i was realy happy with each small victory.
but i learned how importand it is to have real challenges and sometime to loose a game, just to see there is something to learn and the possibility to improve my skills.
with getting better and better i had to travel more to participate all the international competitions.
if you want the benefit of real great success, you should learn to love the challenge, because it will become a great part of your life.
Jim Rohn said: “don`t wish things become easyer, wish you more skills”
when i`m looking back, i found some easy rules i followed:
1 i looked for the best trainer possible
2 i connected with the best players, trained with them, competed with them
3 improve my skills everyday
4 had fun with everything i did
get up at 5 in the morning for a hard training is not only fun. but we had fun, because we did it together with highly motivated friends.
there is something in common if you like to be successfull with your business.
Hmmm…..Hope you do understand, that your comments and article reflect the notion of all of the ideas in what the authors of “The Secret” were putting forth. Only thing you did was to say things in a light that made it all sound negative, and then tell why you should go out and put a postive spin on it all. Hey…..do they call that, “Selling”?
I think so.
Really, the person who commented with that list in a positive way had the right idea. And if any of your readers or followers pay close attention to whatever it is that your message is they will note that there ALWAYS certain specific rules to how the “universe” operates! And that’s for everyone!!! No if’s, and’s, or butts!!! We are all using the same rules to breathe, live, and operate within this world of ours, Only thing is, so few of us actually pay attention to those rules, that we spend more time in our lives blaing someone else for our miseries and just get to live a life from that perspective…..miserable. Hardly many will use the “will” they have, first of all, and then secondly start to recognize the unlimited potential to which their lives can be. I mean, had that not been the case, you, nor I, nor any of the people who responded, would be able to put forth the intelligence to respond the way they did.
So, no matter what you call the “matter” of you life, you must first “think” it, then “speak” it, and finally “act” from the thoughts, and words that you used. And what thoughts, words and actions you choose…..WE, all choose…….are what determines the shape of our lives, each and every one of us. Success or something else.
Good Day Patric,
Fully agree with what you wrote, as most of the time people are always looking for ways to success but they often missed out what may lead them to failure, and i always apply some of this principles (not all :p) in my daily life.
Anyway, I find this blog fascinating and really enjoy reading it. keep it up the good work.
Warmest Regards from Penang,
Sim
I love that part about Law of Attraction. Very apt observation. Doing “attraction” by “manifesting” three hours per day is hilarious.
And sitting on twitter for hours on end “manifesting attraction” – that’s getting tiresome. Well, maybe those tweeple are a just there to make an honest buck. So I’d let it go at that.
Splendid other points – all of them candid and useful.
Your articule is worth all the books I’ve read before. Your comments are straight forward and to the point. Here you are presenting what the successful law of attraction journey is all about. ‘
Thansk for giving yourself away
Thanks Patric. I have been so “down in the dumps” for the past month and a half that I have let things fall down around me. I’m ready to pick myself up and continue on. Your 10 points sounded like me and my circumstance and I realize that I am not alone and should not give up. Thank you for your inspiring words.
Yes, Patric. You put very same phrases in your book a few years back, right?
I interviewd 10 successful online people in Japan and completed an ebook. During this interview, one who runs porno books shop said that he should have aimed higher. He is successful OK, but after his accomplishment he regret that he should have aimed higher.
In a way he is stuck now and to earn bigger he feels that he must rewrite the whole blue print.
Hi Patric,
Thanks for real info; you can’t just keep them yourself because you
should not be there on the plateau of
your Mount of Success if you didn’t share to others. Thanks for being
kind too. You are indeed a nice fellow.
Maria
I know several people that want to succeed, but they can’t seem to bring everything together to make their success a reality.
I see them working on several projects at one time and the next time I see them they have a new goal to add to the list. I think that is #3…
Ken
If you have stumbled upon this page and comment then you have failed in life so far. Reading this might help though.
I know a lot of people who are guilty of doing Number 7. They think they already know everything, that’s why they don’t succeed.
I can’t remember who said this, but I find this very true:
“The more you know, the more you’re aware that there are still many things you need to know.”
Very true, I always prefer to give people the plain hard facts, even though they maybe unpleasant at times. Very true about mixing with losers, like attracts like!.
What you say is true.., expecially for point 3. You Want Everything, thanks for writing these article.
I completely agree with you.
When it comes to #8, listening to the wrong people, it can be fairly hard to know that they are the wrong people.
For instance, if you want to experience success and earn a living online, you need to listen to people with success. But, sometimes it’s hard to know if the people you are receiving your advice from have achieved success at all.
Some people you know are successful, because like you, they have become an authority. My point is, it can be hard to distinguish between the right and wrong people.

Hi Chan,
The article conveys down to earth concepts which nobody should try to run away from; thanks alot and continue doing the good work
