What Is An Affiliate Program?

Affiliate programs (also called referral programs or associate programs) are essentially commission-based sales schemes. You recommend a site to your website visitors or friends through your 'affiliate link' and pick up a percentage of any sales those visitors generate. This percentage of sales is considered as affiliate/referral commission. You benefit from the commission and the site benefits from the sales it wouldn’t otherwise have made if it wasn’t for you.

An affiliate link is basically a unique link generated by the affiliate program's software that is different to each of their affiliates. So when you refer someone to a website from your own  affiliate link, the software will know that the referral comes from you and credit accordingly.

Case study: In 1996, Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon.com, popularized this idea as an Internet marketing strategy. Amazon.com attracts affiliates to post links to individual books for sale on Amazon.com, or for Amazon.com in general, by promising them a percentage of the profits if someone clicks on the link and then purchases books or other items. The affiliate helps make the sale, but Amazon.com does everything else: They take the order, collect the money and ship the book to the customer.

For a simple explanation, if you refer me to buy a book from Amazon.com by using your "affiliate link" provided by Amazon.com, you’ll get paid 3-10% affiliate commission depending on the product.
 

How Commission's Being Tracked?

Our affiliate program is tracked based on cookies through our 'in-house' affiliate tracking software.

Cookies are an ID that is dropped on someone's computer when they access a site, something like a "John was here" marker. Most affiliate programs use the cookies system to track their affiliates' sales.

However, We Don't Just Track With Cookies, We Embed Your Affiliate ID Into Our Email Follow Up System (Autoresponder) Too.

As explain earlier, the standard method of affiliate tracking is by cookies. That's great but the problem is, once they've cleared their cookies, it'll not track anymore.
